Comments: Bigleaf maple is a common native large deciduous tree in the Pacific Northwest, often growing to 100 ft tall. Its large, opposite leaves (up to 12 inches or more across) are the largest leaves of all the maple., and are lustrous dark green above, paler green beneath, with typically 5 deep lobes. Flowers in early spring usually before leaves appear. Flowers are small, greenish-yellow, in drooping cluster. Fruits (double samara) hang down in clusters, with many pokey hairs on the seeds. Foliage is yellow to gold or brown in fall. Prefers cool, moist environments, in sun to part shade.
