Yet Shore Pine survive the windy blasts of sand and salt like no other tree except Sitka Spruce (Picea sitchensis), which shares the coastal environment. Shore Pine is also grows in bogs throughout its range. The needles of the Shore Pine, which grow in bundles of 2, are up to 3 inches (8 cm.) long. The egg-shaped cones are 2 inches (5 cm.) long and have sharp prickles on the scales.
