.
Common name: winter flame coralbark maple
Family: Sapindaceae
Distribution: Garden Origin
Hardiness: Zone 5a -20 to -15 F
Life form: Deciduous tree

Comments: This cultivar of the coral bark maple is similar to the popular 'Sango kaku' but is more compact, only reaching about 10 feet tall by 8 feet wide. Small, 5-lobed lime green leaves emerge in the spring that transition to a more muted green in summer, then to a orange/red in the fall before they fall off exposing the bright coral bark. Flowers are red but not showy and samaras ripen from summer to fall.
