Comments: European Silver Fir is a large tree that grows to 160 feet (50 m.) Its needles are .6 to 1.2 in. (15–30mm.) long, dark, glossy green on top with two white bands of stomata below. The species name (alba) is named for its white wood, which is used in making paper and plywood. This fir was a popular Christmas tree in Europe until it was replaced by Nordmann Fir and Norway Spruce. The pine-scented oil extracted from this tree is used in perfumes and bath oils.
