Comments: American hop hornbeam is a deciduous tree typically growing to 25-40’ tall and 20-30’ wide. Leaves oval to lance-shaped, sharply serrated, dark yellow-green to 5” long. Flowers are monoecious catkins, male flowers red-brown and present throughout winter, female flowers greenish, followed by drooping clusters of seed pods resembling the fruit of hops.
Best grown in average, medium, well-drained soil in full sun to part shade.
